What did this initiative focus on?
The present Bilateral Initiative, to be developed by the Instituto Hidrográfico (IH, Portugal) and the Institute of Marine Research (IMR, Norway), aims to achieve three main objectives:
Objective 1: To provide a mechanism through which IH and IMR can develop an in-depth understanding of each institution, identifying their common areas of interest and complementarities, as well as building a solid knowledge of the different capacities installed at each institution regarding coastal ocean observation and research. The two institutions will thus act as precursors to potential collaborative actions to be developed in the near future between them.
Objective 2: To provide a space for broader discussion with key partners in Portugal and Norway, who will collaborate with IH and IMR to identify and design a specific collaborative action to be developed in the short term, with the aim of substantially improving the capacities for coastal ocean observation and research in Portugal and Norway.
Objective 3: To strengthen the interaction with and engagement of a broad community of users of the coastal environment in Portugal, promoting among these audiences a wide dissemination of the activities and installed capacities of IMR, in Norway, and demonstrating how these can align with the activities carried out in Portugal by IH and other relevant Portuguese research institutions, as well as identifying how synergies can be created around future collaborative actions for the coastal ocean.
