What did this initiative focus on?

FILMSCHOOL is a project focused on film literacy, aimed to conceive, develop and promote activities and increase practice and expertise sharing of educational film departments of Cinemateca Portuguesa, Lisbon, Portugal, and Cinemateket I Oslo, run by Norsk Film Institut, based in Oslo, Norway.

FILMSCHOOL will be developed in a complementary and in-dialogue strategy, where training and working sessions will identify common needs, at the same time as their practices are shared with teachers from different areas of expertise. The common ground will set the layers that will be shared with students, that, through discussion and practical exercises will apprehend, test and validate the topics, tools and strategies, later to be presented to a larger audience, and contribute to a workflow of acquired knowledge.

The project will also aim to promote a context for shared experiences in between the students, in particular the possibility of using film – and its various approaches - to contextualize the realm in which they live and study, as well as its history and impact for the future. In that sense, it is expected to have the presence of members of the press from both Portugal and Norway in different moments of the project, to measure the social and mediatic impact of the actions and activities. FILMSCHOOL will promote and instigate the development of related research within their final evaluation projects, to assess the impact of the actions developed within the objectives.
