Ponte de Lima hosted the 1st edition of the Moot Court EFTA from February 14 to 16. Funded under the Fund for Bilateral Relations, the Moot Court competition was organized by the Portuguese Society of International Law (SPDI) in partnership with Innlandet University College from Norway. The event brought together teams from Portuguese universities and a Norwegian university. It also featured the participation of a team from Slovenia, one of the beneficiary countries of the EEA Grants.
The initiative consisted of a simulation of court sessions based on the jurisdiction of the EFTA Court, in which law students had the opportunity to act as lawyers in a fictional case based on European Economic Area (EEA) law. The main goal was to allow students to develop oral argumentation skills, legal research abilities, and the practical application of theoretical legal knowledge.
Maria Mineiro, Head of the National Focal Point, attended as a jury member in some of the sessions simulating proceedings before the EFTA Court.
The initiative was a success, promoting legal education, fostering academic cooperation, and encouraging a deeper understanding of EEA law, thereby strengthening relations between Portugal and Norway.
