Cultural Heritage is increasingly exposed to the effects of climate change, especially in coastal areas. To face this challenge, Património Cultural, I.P. and Riksantikvaren (Norway) are developing the ‘Safeguarding Coastal Heritage at Risk’ initiative, financed by the EEA Grants' Fund for Bilateral Relations.
On 26 and 27 March, a delegation from Património Cultural, I.P. travelled to Rogaland, Norway, to visit eight archaeological sites in vulnerable coastal areas. These sites are threatened by various environmental factors, from extreme meteorological phenomena to coastal erosion and human intervention.
This trip was the second stage of this bilateral action, following a bilateral workshop in Lisbon on 19 February and a field visit the following day to threatened coastal archaeological sites in the municipalities of Lourinhã, Peniche, Mafra, and Sintra.
The initiative will come to an end with the publication of its conclusions in a bilingual version (PT/EN) in the next volume of the monograph series Trabalhos de Arqueologia, published by Património Cultural, I.P.
