On December 11, 2024, the Sala Século at the Secretary-General for the Environment will host the final event of the ‘Environment Programme,' a program funded by the EEA Grants, whose donor countries are Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. The event marks the conclusion of this program which, since 2019, has supported projects aimed at promoting the circular economy in the construction and plastics sectors, protecting biosphere reserves, and implementing concrete mitigation and adaptation measures for climate change in Portugal.
The opening session will feature speeches by the Secretary-General for the Environment, Marco Rebelo, the Coordinator of the National Management Unit, Maria Mineiro, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Portugal, Hanne Brusletto, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in supporting innovative environmental initiatives. This will be followed by a presentation by Joana Tadeu, known as “The Imperfect Environmentalist,” who will reflect on the actions carried out under the program and the results achieved.
The program continues with a panel discussion moderated by Filipe Luís, journalist for Visão, bringing together experts to discuss future perspectives and challenges identified during project implementation. The panel will include representatives from various fields, including Nuno Lacasta from the Programme AdaPT and Magnar Odelien from Innovation Norway, a partner of the ‘Environment Programme,' who will share their views on the impact of these initiatives in the context of climate change and the low-carbon economy.
The event also features the screening of the video "The Other Side of the Projects," presenting testimonies from beneficiaries that showcase the real and transformative impacts of the supported projects. To enrich the experience, the lunch session will include moments of music and poetry, with performances by Luís Barrigas and Leonor Costa. The event will close with remarks by Emídio Sousa, Secretary of State for the Environment.
