The “Bebidas + Circulares” initiative aims to encourage citizens of the municipality of Lisbon to return PET and glass plastic bottles and non-reusable beverage cans, so that the collected material is recycled and incorporated as raw material in the production of new packaging. drinks. The project aims to collect 2.5 million packages and reach 50 tons of recycled plastic in the next 12 months.
The 11 machines are installed in several APED members stores, such as Continente, Pingo Doce, Lidl, Auchan, El Corte Ingles and the Municipal Market of Benfica.
Promoted by APIAM, the Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED) and the Portuguese Association of Non-Alcoholic Refreshing Drinks (PROBEB), the “Bebidas + Circulares” project is part of the “Lisbon Capital Green European initiative 2020 ”and prepares the future beverage packaging deposit system, which should start operating in 2022.
The “Bebidas + Circulares” project is 90% funded by the “Environment, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy” Programme, of the European Economic Area in Portugal's Financial Mechanism for the period 2014-2021, created following the signing of an agreement between Portugal, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, the EEA Grants.
