This study visit results from the collaboration between Norway’s Proptech Innovation cluster and Portugal’s Sustainable Habitat Cluster, reinforcing the joint commitment to the green transition in the sector.
The EEA Grants Portugal Environment Programme is represented by the coordinator of the National Management Unit of the EEA Grants, as well as by the Norwegian Embassy in Portugal.
The day's agenda began with a visit to the facilities of Amorim Cork Solutions, where innovative cork-based solutions for sustainable construction and interior design were presented. The company demonstrated how this natural material, in addition to being an excellent thermal and acoustic insulator, contributes to energy efficiency and reduces the environmental footprint of buildings, promoting a construction model aligned with circular economy principles.
This was followed by a visit to Perfisa, where the delegation learned about the advantages of Light Steel Framing technology, a construction system based on lightweight metal profiles. This method combines structural strength and lightness, enabling greater creative freedom in architectural projects while ensuring high standards of safety and comfort. Moreover, the technique stands out for reducing material waste and enhancing assembly efficiency, reinforcing the role of industrialized construction in the sector’s sustainability.
In the afternoon, the team traveled to Aveiro to visit the Souto de Moura Building, developed by Civilria. The project is distinguished by the integration of innovative strategies for energy efficiency and industrialized construction, promoting a sustainable model that combines contemporary architecture with best environmental practices.
The day concluded with a matchmaking session at the University of Aveiro, bringing together companies, research institutions, and clusters to explore new collaborations between Portugal and Norway in the field of sustainable construction. This session provided a dynamic networking space, allowing companies to identify cooperation opportunities and exchange experiences on innovation and digitalization in construction.
The initiative highlights the EEA Grants' commitment to fostering sustainability and innovation in the construction sector, strengthening international partnerships, and promoting new approaches to the circular economy and decarbonization.
